Mozi – Decolonial Insights and Critical Media Culture

Mozi (379-382 BC) is a long-suppressed philosopher, technologist, and activist in ancient China. In this talk, Professor Jack Linchuan Qiu introduces Mozi, the context of his work, and his school of thought – Mohism, which can shape how critical media, culture, and communication scholars understand today’s digital and social phenomena. The talk is timed with the 10th anniversary of the launch of “Mozi”, the world’s first quantum satellite, made by Chinese scientists and launched in 2016. Qiu is Chair and Shaw Foundation Prof of Media Technology, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
