Entrance Requirements

 

• A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent qualification, preferably in film studies or media production.
• Applicants seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong in which the language of instruction and/or examination is not English are required to obtain:
  • a score of 90 or above (for tests taken before January 21, 2026) or an overall score of 4.5 or above on the 1-6 band scale (for tests taken from January 21, 2026 onwards) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
  • a minimum overall band of 6.5 with no sub-test lower than 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  • grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language.

• Applicants who do not hold a bachelor’s degree from this university or another qualification of equivalent standard may in exceptional circumstances be permitted to register if they have:
  • at least ten years of professional experience in film or related industry; or
  • directed two award-winning films or have extensive experience as producers of multiple award-winning films; and
  • shown proof of competence in the English language.
• Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview administered by the School of Future Media, either in person or via Zoom.

Application Materials

 

1. Self-Introduction Video

   • Maximum length of 3 minutes
   • Addressing the following questions in English:
     • Briefly introduce yourself
     • What does AI mean to you, and how did you come across it?
     • Why do you want to create films using generative AI?
     • What makes a good AI film?

2. Entry Film

   • A film you have created or been a crucial part of
   • Minimum length of 5 minutes
   • Genre: Fiction, Documentary, or AI-generated content (no showreels)
   • A document that includes the name, length, year of production, and summary of your work; a credit list detailing all roles and contributions (e.g., director, writer, cinematographer, editor, sound designer, AI tool operator, etc.); and a clear specification of your role in the film.

3. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

   • Include your contact email, English proficiency level, academic background, relevant experience and skills, and any prior work in film, media, or AI industries.

4. Proof of university qualifications (mandatory) and English proficiency test results (if applicable)
