Application Guidelines for Artificial Intelligence Filmmaking and Media Programme (MAAIFM)
Please prepare the following application materials:
Entry Film
- An original film of a minimum length of 5 minutes in any of the following genres:
- Fiction
- Documentary
- AI-generated content
- A document that includes the name, length, year of production, and summary of your work; a credit list detailing all roles and contributions (e.g., director, writer, cinematographer, editor, sound designer, AI tool operator, etc.)
Self-Introduction Video (maximum length of 3 minutes)
Prepare a video with a brief self-introduction and address the following questions in ENGLISH:
- What does AI mean to you, and how did you come across it?
- Why do you want to create films using generative AI?
- What makes a good AI film?
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Include your contact email, English level, academic background, relevant experience, skills, and any prior work in film, media, or AI industries.
Proof of university qualifications (mandatory) and English proficiency test results (if applicable)

Please submit the required materials via email to aifilm@hku.hk with the subject line:
[Your Full Name] + Application for AI Filmmaking and Media Programme.
For all video submissions, please upload them to a cloud server and include the access link in the email.
The application deadline for 2026-27 MA-AIFM is 20 April, 2026.
Application Process
- There is no written test for this programme.
- Shortlisted candidates will receive an invitation for an interview, which will be arranged via email notification.
Important Declaration
Please be advised that this programme is subject to the University's approval. All applicants will be required to resubmit their application materials through the HKU portal and remit the application fee once the official system is operational.
