HKUMS hosts book talk featuring AI expert Karen Hao

On 13 November, the JMSC hosted a book talk featuring AI expert and investigative journalist Karen Hao, who discussed her latest publication, "Empire of AI", with JMSC AI innovation concentration programme lead and lecturer Yolanda Ma.

During their dialogue, they explored Hao's journey of interviewing over 250 individuals connected to OpenAI or the AI industry.

Drawing from her experience as an investigative reporter, Hao shared insights into the AI industry's ecosystem and offered advice for student journalists interested in pursuing careers in AI and tech journalism.

Hao then addressed various AI-related topics during the Q&A session, including data centres and the environmental impacts associated with the industry's rapid development.
